Coenzyme Q10

A molecule involved in cellular energy production, which is being studied for its effects on cardiovascular health and fatigue.

HeartEnergy

Benefits

  • Plays a part in the cells’ energy production
  • Antioxidant effect
  • Developed with cardiovascular health in mind

Precautions

May interact with anticoagulants. Is better absorbed when taken with a high-fat meal. Seek medical advice if you are undergoing treatment for a heart condition or taking statins.

Recommended dosage

100 to 200 mg a day, taken with a meal containing fat

Did you know?

A clinical study has shown that CoQ10, taken at a dose of 60 mg twice daily, is no more effective than a placebo in relieving muscle pain attributed to statins.

What the studies say

  • This study investigated the effects of coenzyme Q10 supplementation, both acute (single dose) and chronic (14 days, 100 mg twice daily), on physical performance in trained and untrained individuals. After two weeks of supplementation, plasma CoQ10 levels increased, and a trend towards an increase in time to exhaustion was observed. The results suggest that CoQ10 may influence acute and/or chronic responses to exercise.
